What does it actually cost to sell tickets online?

When choosing a ticketing platform, pricing is often the first thing you look at. But fee structures can be hard to decipher. What do you actually pay as an organizer, and what does your guest pay?

We have put together an overview of the most common ticketing platforms, so you can compare what it really costs to sell tickets.

How ticketing fees work

Most platforms charge a fee per ticket sold. The fee typically consists of two parts:

  • A fixed amount per ticket (e.g. 5 DKK)
  • A percentage of the ticket price (e.g. 3-5%)

On top of that, the payment provider (Stripe, MobilePay, etc.) charges its own fee for processing the payment. It is important to distinguish between the platform fee and the payment processing fee.

Who pays the fee?

This is where platforms differ. Some charge the organizer, others add the fee on top of the ticket price so the guest pays. And some let you choose.

When the guest pays the fee, it does not affect your revenue. But it can affect conversion, because the total price becomes higher than the advertised price.

Overview: Fees on ticketing platforms

Ticketmaster

  • Service fee: 10-55 DKK per ticket (depends on price and agreement)
  • Admin fee: 10 DKK per transaction
  • Who pays: The guest
  • Note: Primarily for large events. Requires a deal with Ticketmaster. Not suitable for smaller organizers.

Billetto

  • Service fee: 3.9% + approx. 7 DKK per ticket
  • Who pays: Your choice (95% let the guest pay)
  • Note: Free to set up. Good platform for mid-sized events. Payout 3-5 business days after event.

Eventbrite

  • Service fee: 3.7% + approx. 13 DKK per ticket
  • Payment fee: 2.9% per order on top
  • Who pays: Your choice
  • Note: Big international name. Fees can add up quickly, especially the extra payment processing fee.

LINJERUM

  • Service fee: 3.5% + 5 DKK per ticket
  • Who pays: The guest (or the organizer, you choose)
  • Note: 0 DKK for the organizer. No subscription, no setup fee, no lock-in. Danish platform with Danish support.

A concrete example

Let us say you sell a ticket for 200 DKK. What does your guest pay in fees?

  • Ticketmaster: 25-55 DKK (+ 10 DKK admin) = 235-265 DKK
  • Billetto: 7.80 DKK + 7 DKK = ~215 DKK
  • Eventbrite: 7.40 DKK + 13 DKK + 2.9% = ~226 DKK
  • LINJERUM: 7 DKK + 5 DKK = 212 DKK

What else should you consider?

The per-ticket fee matters, but it is not everything. Also consider:

  • Payout speed: How quickly do you get your money?
  • Flexibility: Can you customize tickets, season passes and seating?
  • Support: Can you get help in your language, in your time zone?
  • Data ownership: Who owns your guests data?

The cheapest platform is not necessarily the best. But it is good to know what you are paying before you decide.
